The City of Coffs Harbour offers just about
everything the visitor could need. Accommodation ranges from caravan parks to world class
motels and resorts with everything in between. The area has very active deep sea and short
fishing clubs. The deep sea club house overlooks the harbour and maintains a radio
watch for anglers. Visiting anglers are welcome and the club is fully licenced.
The boat ramp, which is on the
south wall of the harbour is below the Deep Sea club house, is of four lanes and is
capable of taking any size trailer. It opens into the harbour which gives all weather
access to the open sea.
Bait and fuel is available from the
Mobil service station in High Street not far from the harbour.
All tackle and bait needs are
catered for at Fisherman's Heaven on the Pacific Highway, one of the largest tackle shops
in Australia.
The ocean offshore abounds in
islands and bommies where just about any temperate or tropical species can turn up. But be
warned, these areas have claimed a number of lives over the years so take special care and
listen to the advice of locals. There is also a great interest in diving so watch for
warning flags when around the islands.
Some fish
are protected in Coffs Harbour as are some parts of the Solitary Islands Marine National
Park. Please ensure you obtain from the Department of Fisheries or most fish supply
shops details of the Fishing zones |
